En Masse

The design aims to create a safe and intimate environment for every need of the students. Along with this theme, the need for a variety of different spaces became evident. Because of this, each student has been provided with their own room/space as well as private bathrooms within each pod. 

The construction of the building will be completed with a mixture of earth bricks and concrete. These heavy, grounding materials, with their warm earthy tones, will create a comfortable environment within each room. Embedded in these monolithic materials, is a light wood-framed, mono-pitch truss system along with a corrugated metal roof. 

The 25 dorms sit separated on two 2’ tall concrete slabs. The only thing connecting these two separate entities is a couple of bridges in which a series of sunken courtyards exists between to catch and retain rainwater.
